True artistic creation rarely happens in a vacuum. For me, the creative process is an act of translation—an alchemy of combination where tools, mediums, and historical elements collide to birth a entirely new visual narrative. As a graphic artist deeply enamored by the structural morphology of the Arabic letter, I do not see the script as mere language. I see it as a fluid, living shape that can bend, morph, and fuse perfectly with any artistic medium.
A recent collection exploring the artistic landscape of the Gulf region became the ultimate canvas for this philosophy. Under the banner of visual arts, I set out to produce a series of unique, individual artistic pages. Each page was crafted as an intentional response to a specific Saudi artist's masterwork, pulling from their colors, their emotional weight, and their distinct subject matter.
My visual identity thrives on this deliberate combination of mixed media and digital tools to form a cohesive collage. The elements change depending on the story the original artwork is trying to tell.
For instance, when an artist’s piece reflects structural masonry or ancient urban landscapes, my response page morphs to match that atmosphere. I distort the Arabic calligraphy, interlacing the strokes directly with heavy architectural elements—drawing the lines of a letter so they mirror the framework of a traditional arched Arabic door, or weaving them into the weighted geometry of traditional heritage jewelry. I layer these digital textures with raw, physical brush strokes, using a color palette pulled straight from the DNA of the original masterpiece.
Yet, across every single unique page I produce, there remains an unbreakable anchor: Zakharef (traditional ornamentation). Zakharef acts as the permanent genetic code of my work—the undeniable DNA of Arabic identity.
By utilizing these ornamental patterns as a structural grid, I can shape and stretch the Arabic letters to echo the exact subject of the art, whether it demands the rigid lines of stone monuments or the delicate filigree of silver craftsmanship. For me, art identity is never about sticking to one solitary tool; it is about the infinite possibility of combination, proving that our heritage shapes itself beautifully to whatever medium we choose to explore.
